Lecture by Dr Ann Ferguson on George Stubbs & The Hunter Brothers

Dr. Ann Ferguson has an interest in art and in the study of anatomy, from earliest times. George Stubbs was born into the Age of Enlightenment and although he came from a poor background, he became an anatomical demonstrator and illustrator, and then a famous portrait and horse painter. He spent a considerable time studying horse anatomy by dissection, and became known to many anatomists in England and abroad. He painted animals for both William and John Hunter. Towards the end of his life, he started a valuable study of comparative anatomy, which he never finished.
