A skills-based class tailored for students who wish to advance their jewellery-making skills, leading to advanced partitioning. Makers may use base metals, such as copper and brass, advancing quickly to silver and gold, gems such as pearls and other precious elements, when wished. Beginners must pay close attention and awareness must be paid to the health and safety aspects of this skilled practice, acids, saw blades, specialist machines, and soldering will be used. During the course, students will experiment with a range of techniques such as shaping, forming, and soldering. Particular emphasis is given not only to the practical skills of jewellery making but also to the design and wearability of finished items. Past students have gone on to professional levels selling their own pieces on the design circuit. Students purchase their own materials, specialist studio tables are provided, and access to certain equipment.
