'Paying Homage' A talk by Stephen Snoddy - Biography

Snoddy talks about his methods, development and inspiration.

Born in Belfast, Snoddy graduated in 1983 with an M.A. in Fine Art from Belfast College of Art. The a postgraduate in Art Gallery & Museum studies from Manchester University, before moving to Arnofini Gallery, Bristol where he worked on exhibition programmes including Richard Long, Giuseppe Penone, Gillian Ayres, Rachel Whiteread, Jack B. Yeats and Juan Munoz. After becoming Exhibitions Director of Cornerhouse, Manchester he was responsible for the John Baldessari Retrospective. Appointed Director of Southhampton City Art Gallery, he organised the 1998 Chris Ofili's solo exhibition which won Ofili the 1998 Turner Prize.

Snoddy directed the construction of a brand new gallery - MK Gallery opened in 1999 with 'The Rudimentary Pictures', by Gilbert & George. He was appointed Director of BALTIC, Gateshead 2003 engaging with artists of the region, lectured at Manchester Metropolitan University and continued to be on the VAGA Executive Board. He was also a director of the New Contemporaries and was on the Visual Arts Committee of the British Council.
