'Sweeping Brush Strokes' An Exhibition of HSoA Artists Chinese Brush Painting

'Sweeping Brush Strokes' An Exhibition of HSoA Artists Chinese Brush Painting

I am delighted to be exhibiting the ink paintings of HSoA artists and their tutor, the Artist Xiaolan Gu.

HSoA artists, often starting at the very beginning, developing rapidly their knowledge of these ancient techniques, expertly guided by Xiaolan Gu to use the traditional ways and learn swiftly to incorporate their own meanings in a personal context.

Ink painting has been an integral part of Chinese literati culture for thousands of years. Its use as an expressive force and calligraphic medium with its sweeping brushstrokes, is more akin to art than penmanship.

By drawing on both these classical Chinese aesthetics and philosophy, our artists ability to blend colour techniques with the freehand brushwork associated with the traditional style, becomes an extension of the skills and aesthetics. This is beautiful artwork.
