We are delighted to announce that the Principal Isabel H Langtry’s new public sculpture for the City of Riyadh is now complete and will be permanently sited in the city. Named ‘Gravity’, made from a beautiful piece of black marble weighing 12.5 tons, and standing 3.5 meters high.
Isabel tells us “‘Gravity’ took its inspiration from thinking about ‘The Poetics of Space’, with a focus on time and structure, its references to ancient forms of construction echoed in the triangular shapes found in mud and straw constructions in Riyadh, which offer great structural stability, strength, also found in the wonderful Egyptian shapes, African Carving, and in philosophy meanings, suggesting perspective, growth, direction. In sculptural language the forms offered me an opportunity to explore depth, repeat imagery, strength and form. Most fascinating for me is the connections the sculpture made with the many visitors who poured out their responses to me, so diverse, so insightful, just wonderful”.
