Engaging with making art is not a solitary activity, it is an engagement with the world that has real consequences. HSoA believes that developing relationships with other learning centres is essential to our creative processes.
By building an ever-growing resource of ideas, concepts, objects, symbols and or notions through engagement is a truly enriching objective for all our community.
Creativity does not appear in a vacuum, the sharing of materials is, in our mind, essential. My recent visit to Slovenia - Ljubliana University, University of Nova Gorica and Croatia- Kornarija Sculpture Park and Marušići Symposium Group, begins a new partnership for HSoA. My contribution to the book ‘Kornarija’, was well received as was my speech at the book launch which celebrated all the artists involved in the stone symposiums of the area, many of whom are now international artists able to give back knowledge to new learners of the wonderful classical and traditional techniques in art-making. Planning a re-opening of the sculpture school is exciting, the British Council has been an important funder, new funders will find this a rewarding partnership. As a consultant to the Group I look forward to my next visit and the incorporation of HSoA staff and students into the project.
