Students are introduced to a variety of materials and foundational techniques essential for painting. The course covers the making of supports, including canvas stretching, and explores diverse image transfer methods and drawing practices. Traditional painting techniques such as Imprimatura and Grisaille (monochrome underpainting) are taught to build technical skills and understanding of tonal structures. Students will also explore the use of different brushes, such as bristle brushes for scumbling and soft hair brushes for glazing techniques, to understand their unique effects. Creativity and experimentation are encouraged throughout, fostering both technical confidence and artistic independence.
